Commentary Regarding Serious Bicycle Accidents

On his way home from work Sunday, a man was killed on the Interstate between West Memphis, Arkansas and Memphis, Tennessee. The man was riding his bicycle when a Mack truck hit him. According to preliminary police reports, 47 year old Pierre McReynolds is the 331st person to be killed in a traffic accident in Arkansas this year.

There have been no reports yet of why the Mack truck was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the cyclist. Many times, investigators will look into whether the truck driver was speeding. All too often fatal truck accidents occur because of unsafe driving. Sometimes, equipment on the truck malfunctions causing the driver to lose control.

Even if a bicycle victim survives, there are usually serious injuries to the victim(s). The weight of a truck increases the effect of the impact on other objects. Needless to say, most bicycle and truck accidents are catastrophic. Truck accident injuries usually result in traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, permanent damage to internal organs, amputations, and multiple bone fractures.
