Skechers Getting in Shape is Harder than Getting New Shoes

June 18, 2012 0 Comments

Do you start a new commitment to get in shape every time a new week rolls around? If someone said you could get in shape without changing anything but the kind of shoes you wore, how fast would go get those shoes? A lot of people did just that, only to find out they did not get the results they were after. Skechers USA, Inc. advertised that its Shape-ups shoes strengthened and toned muscles, improved cardiovascular health, and helped with weight loss. As of last month, we now know those claims were false. The Federal Trade Commission complaint stated that Skechers violated federal law by making deceptive advertising claims, including falsely representing that clinical studies backed up the claims.  After a final judgment Skechers is barred from making claims that Shape-ups affect any of the following until the claims are true and backed by scientific evidence:

  • Weight loss
  • Blood circulation
  • Aerobic condition
  • Muscle tone
  • Muscle activation

Shape-ups have also been accused of causing back pain and serious injury due to falls. Because of the rounded sole, the person wearing the shoes has to constantly keep their body balanced and can easily fall or strain a muscle. If you have been injured as a result of a Skechers toning shoe, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering. Please call my law office today to find out if you have a claim and should take legal action.
